Sprachreise nach Dublin

Our trip to Ireland took place from September 16th to 23rd and was full of culture and exciting activities. During our stay in Dublin, we lived with host families, which allowed us to experience everyday Irish life. We also attended the Babel Academy of English near the famous Temple Bar. Our language teachers helped us improve our English skills and taught us a lot about Irish culture and slang.

On September 17th, we explored Dublin on a city walking tour and saw many famous sights, including the well-known Molly Malone statue. The city impressed us with its lively and charming atmosphere.

On the 18th, we visited the EPIC Museum, which tells the story of Irish emigration. In the evening, we took part in a pub singalong and experienced traditional Irish music. The next day, we visited the Jeanie Johnston, a replica of a historic famine ship that shows the difficult journeys of Irish emigrants in the past. One highlight of our trip was the visit to Kilkenny on September 20th, with its medieval streets and impressive castle. On the 21st, we traveled to Bray, went on a coastal hike, and later enjoyed bowling. In the evening, we had dinner with our teachers in an Irish pub. The following day, we experienced the Howth Cliff walk with stunning views of the Irish Sea. On September 23rd, we said goodbye, taking home unforgettable memories and improved English skills.

The water there is crystal clear and refreshingly cool. But the highlight of the afternoon was the speed boat ride to the lagoon and back. This was something some of us had definitely not expected…

Other than that, we did a harbour cruise on Thursday and went bowling on Friday. On Saturday we took the ferry to Gozo, a small island to the north of Malta. There we visited Victoria, the capital city of Gozo, and the Ramla bay. Some of us also dared to go on a short boat trip through the caves at Dwejra bay. The rough cliffs and red corals were truly astonishing!

Gozo was our last little adventure on our language trip and despite us students being a bit tired already, we really enjoyed the tour. Our journey to Malta was such an educational and exciting experience which I’m sure we’re all going to keep in good memory. (Amelie Frena, 7A)

Für den Klimaschutz

Im Rahmen des „Ich tu’s“-Klimaplanspiels schlüpfte die 7b-Klasse in die Rollen von Entscheidungsträger*innen fiktiver Gemeinden der Region „Wurzelwald“. Ziel war es, gemeinsam Klimaschutzmaßnahmen zu beschließen – trotz wirtschaftlicher Interessen und begrenzter Ressourcen. Mit großem Engagement und viel Spielfreude diskutierten die Schüler*innen hitzig über Windräder, Aufforstung, Verkehrskonzepte und Wirtschaftsförderung.

Dabei lernten sie nicht nur fachlich viel über Klimawandel und Klimaschutz, sondern auch über die Bedeutung von Teamarbeit, Kompromissbereitschaft und demokratischen Entscheidungsprozessen. Am Ende stand die Erkenntnis: Nur durch Zusammenarbeit lassen sich nachhaltige Lösungen finden.

Ein lehrreicher Tag, der bei vielen bleibenden Eindruck hinterließ und Lust auf mehr politisches Mitdenken machte. Mag. Elke Scherr

Sprachreise nach Malta

From April 11^th to April 19^th we, the 7^th grade, went on an amazing language trip to Malta. Our journey started early in the morning, 4:30 to be precise, on a coach to Vienna, from where we went on a plane to fly to the island. After an introduction to our host families, our first day in the language school began. Our daily routine consisted of being picked up by a bus and being taken to the language school. After that, we visited different historical places of Malta every day. In the evenings we had the chance to enjoy our free time however we liked. No matter if you were on the beach or in a mall, the possibilities were almost endless. With the weather being almost only sunny, every second there was delightful. I think everyone who joined the trip would recommend Malta as a great travel destination.

Sprachreise nach Dublin

Languagetrip to Ireland

From the 12th to the 20th of April, the 7a and 7b classes went on a language trip to Ireland. We first travelled to the west coast and spent two days at a hostel in Galway before moving to host families in Dublin.

We visited a lot of interesting places: On the first day we took the ferry to Inishmore, one of the Aran Islands, where we cycled around the island enjoying the great views and the (mostly) sunny weather. We saw wild seals and puffins, hundreds of sheep and cattle and a lot of different kinds of birds. The next day, we visited the Cliffs of Moher, which for most of us was a highlight of our trip. On the way from Galway to Dublin, we stopped at Clonmacnoise to visit the Medieval monastery with its attractive round towers and high crosses. The landscapes in Ireland are breathtakingly beautiful and fortunately the weather was really nice.

After settling in with our host families in Dublin, we went on a guided tour through the city. We saw the famous Molly Malone statue, Temple Bar, Trinity College, the Spire of Dublin, UCD campus and other famous sights like the Ha’penny Bridge, another of Dublin’s landmarks. We also had a tour on the replica of the 176-year-old ship called Jeanie Johnston, which played a big role during the Irish Famine.

Although we got to see a lot of attractions, we still had plenty of free time that we used for going to the cinema, shopping, taking a walk in the park or on the beach or other fun activities. On our free Sunday, a small group of students and teachers went to Dun Laoghaire, where we spent the whole day by the sea. Another highlight was the pub singalong at the Ha’penny Bridge Inn, where we got to sing traditional Irish folksongs.

Of course, we did not only expand our cultural knowledge but also our language skills. At the Babel Academy of English, we improved our vocabulary and practised speaking. On the last day, we paired up in teams of two and did street surveys on various topics to test our communication skills in practice.

Looking back at this trip, I must say that all of us enjoyed the experience. It was great! Anna Greiner 7a
